Volunteer Information

We are grateful to have a wonderful team of community helpers, family members, and friends who support the learning that takes place in our schools. School visitors and volunteers are an important part of our educational team. Some changes have recently taken place that we wanted to share with you in anticipation of the new school year.

As always, ALL visitors to our schools will need to provide a driver's license to be scanned to check for any concerns related to access to students or schools.

Most people helping out at schools are considered supervised visitors. Supervised visitors include anyone who will work with students when a teacher is present. Examples may include: classroom readers, individuals attending events at the school, those helping with book fairs or school activities under the supervision of staff.

Beginning this year, UNSUPERVISED volunteers WILL need to complete a volunteer training and NEW background check through a state-approved provider. Examples may include: student teachers, field trip chaperones, tutors who work one-on-one with students outside the classroom and those who work with students WITHOUT the supervision of staff.

Volunteer Types

Details regarding the volunteer process, including training videos and guidance on how to obtain a background check can be found by visiting: https://www.cabellschools.com/page/volunteers.

It is important to note that because of policy at the state level, ALL unsupervised volunteers will need to have a NEW background check completed by IdentoGO. These background checks will be good for three years.  The cost of the background check is $47.50 and locations can be found by visiting: https://www.identogo.com/locations/west-virginia.

If you have questions about your school’s specific implementation, please contact the principal.
