Cabell Midland Marching Knights named WV Marching Band Invitational State Champions
Cabell Midland’s marching band was named state champions at the WV Marching Band Invitational. Over 30 bands traveled to Philippi, WV for the competition, and the Cabell Midland Marching Knights were awarded the following:

National Merit Semifinalists Celebrated from Cabell Midland and Huntington High
We are honored to celebrate with the families of several of our students who were recently named National Merit Semifinalist as part of the National Merit Scholarship Program. This honor is earned based upon the students’ scores on the SAT as well as their academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.

Students Receive SKILLS USA Honored at Fall Leadership Conference
Cabell County Career Technology Center is proud to announce the following SKILLS USA chapter officers who received their statesman pin at the Fall Leadership Conference: Kenzie Morrison, Logan Hackney, Audrey Davis, Madison Shoemaker, Makayla McGlothin, Ayla MacPhee, and Rileigh Yeager. SKILLS USA mission is to empower students to become skilled professionals, career-ready leaders and responsible community members. We are very proud of these student leaders.

Fusion Center’s Commitment to Excellence Award for Mr. Kim Cooper
Kim Cooper understands the mission and vision of the Fusion Center and the FLO Program and is an active participant in quarterly FLO meetings and the annual FLO Training Conference. Kim is also an active member of the newly established FLO Human Trafficking Working Group. Additionally, has welcomed the Fusion Center to Cabell County to train on important topics such as the Nationwide Suspicious Activity Reporting Initiative and the Human Trafficking Program.

WV Little League Softball State Champions 9-11 Division: Barboursville
This summer the Barboursville 9-11 Little League softball team worked hard to become the state champions, even traveling to Tennessee to finish in the top 4 teams at the regional tournament. All 12 players on the team are CCS students. We are so proud of their work on the field and in the classroom.

Gary Brydie: WV Service Personnel of the Year
Mr. Gary Brydie, bus driver at Southside Elementary, Huntington Middle, and Huntington High was awarded the title of WV Service Personnel of the Year at the WVDE Celebration of Excellence on Sept 12th.

WV Adult Education ESL Student of the Year
Reem Nagib was recently recognized by the WVDE as the WV Adult ESL Student of the Year. Ms. Nagib worked with the Cabell County ESOL program to go from barely being able to introduce herself to achieving ESL Level 4 in a single year.

Stuff the Bus: Barboursville Walmart
Barboursville Walmart hosted a back-to-school supply drive entitled Stuff the Bus, led by Community Champion Terri Young.

November Superintendent's Superhero Award: Ms. Courtney Powers
Ms. Powers was nominated by one of her students for the ways in which she cares for all students, those in and outside her class. She was described as helping every student, being a champion for students helping them work towards graduation, and being available and easy to talk to for everyone.

Stephen Riner & Jonathan Jefferson: October Superintendent’s Superheroes
Mr. Riner & Mr. Jefferson were selected as the Superintendent’s Superheroes for going above and beyond to create an unforgettable learning experience for their 6th-grade students during the Science Adventure School hosted by the WVU Extension Service.

After more than 23 years of service to the students, staff, and families of Cabell County Schools, our own Code Red Jedd accepted a new position as the Executive Director for the United Way of the River Cities.
