Cabell Midland Knight Flyers Champions at Miami Valley Aerial Drone Competition
The Cabell Midland High School AFJROTC drone team, the Knight Flyers, recently traveled to Xenia, Ohio, to compete in the inaugural Miami Valley Aerial Drone Competition, where they came away as Tournament Champions.
The REC Foundation drone competition, called "Mission 2023: Blackout," included piloted team matches and autonomous flight skills. The team matches tested piloting skills and teamwork, and the autonomous flight skills tests utilized pro-coded drone commands with no pilots.
The Knight Flyers team includes Liberty Mannon, a sophomore, along with Ty Sovine and Chase Myers, both juniors.
By winning the Miami Valley competition, the Cabell Midland team has qualified to compete in the national championship in Houston, Texas. Additionally, the code developed by head programmer Chase Myers is currently placing first in the world through the competition circuit.
