Families Enjoy Batman Book Bingo Thursday at Central City Elementary

Local children’s author John Buckland, also known as WV Batman, visited Central City Elementary Thursday, February 17 to share his message of kindness and anti-bullying with students and families. Buckland read his book “Broken Toy Hero,” a story about toys that overcome adversity and learn how to be good friends.

"It was a great event; it was really well attended by Central City's community, students and parents," said Dr. Ashley Stephens, Family and Community Engagement Facilitator. "It was so fun to get to see Batman sharing inspirational words, and talking directly to parents about how to keep their kids motivated and addressing the kids personally as well. Obviously, winning board games and books was a big hit with the kids too."

Dr. Stephens said using board games as door prizes was a really good idea; it creates opportunities for parents and kids to bond over fun, learning activities which is one of the main goals of Family Academy.

The event was put on by Parent Partners, Pattie Spencer and Katherine Spaulding.
