Public Invited to Offer Input on Facilities Options January 23

The public is encouraged to attend either one of two interactive work session designed to continue discussion regarding Cabell County Schools’ Comprehensive Education Facilities Plan (CEFP). These CEFP Community Dialogue meetings are planned for Thursday, January 23 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Cabell Midland High School, and then from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Huntington High School.

The purpose of these work sessions is to obtain valuable community input about the potential scenarios presented.  These scenarios were developed by the CEFP Steering Committee in collaboration with the district’s administration and the planning firm, Cooperative Strategies.

Cabell County Schools has retained Cooperative Strategies to aid in the development of the CEFP. The process includes gathering and organizing data and facilitating the community engagement process. In addition, a steering committee, that includes community representatives, has examined the district’s needs and provided important feedback on the development of the plan. The project team will analyze the technical data and the outcomes of the community engagement effort to help develop a CEFP for Cabell County Schools.

The CEFP will be completed by the Spring of 2020. The data used to develop scenarios included a state-provided facility conditions report which assisted in determining which buildings were candidates for replacement, renovation, or modernization. This data was then overlaid with district programming, transportation, demographic and enrollment data to identify a long-range, comprehensive, and strategic approach as to the use and occupancy of district facilities.

Updates on the CEFP process can be found on the Cabell County Schools website under the “About” section, or at the following link: http://www.dejongrichter.com/cabellcountywv/
