Cabell County Schools would like to invite parents, students, school employees, business leaders, and all community members to attend a special West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) meeting being hosted at Cabell Midland High School, Wednesday, July 26, 2017 beginning at 5:30 PM.

At this meeting, representatives of the WVDE will discuss the state’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) plan.  According to the U.S. Department of Education (ED) website, ESSA is “a bipartisan measure that reauthorizes the 50-year-old Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the nation’s national education law and longstanding commitment to equal opportunity for all students.  The new law builds on key areas of progress in recent years, made possible by the efforts of educators, communities, parents, and students across the country.”

ED continues, ESSA includes provisions that will help to ensure success for students and schools.”

The WVDE is conducting regional public stakeholder meetings, like the one July 26th at Cabell Midland High School, to provide information about ESSA and to receive feedback on the state’s plan for implementation.

“This is a valuable opportunity to learn about the state’s plan for school improvement and to express concerns or ideas you have for our state leaders,” says Ryan Saxe, Superintendent of Cabell County Schools.  “We hope to see you there.”
