Davis Creek Elementary students first Lego League Team, Lego-Ginia, won the qualifying round this past weekend at the Robert C. Byrd Technology Institute.

Third and fourth grade students: Sailor Aldridge, Noah Klink, Tyler Bowling, Parker Vanreenan, Xavier Kellar and Anna Klink worked together to create a solution to an issue that involved water transportation, use or accessibility.

The team came up with the Smarty Shower, a showerhead that will reduce the usage of water by incorporating a timer, soap infuser and shut off valve. For marketing, they added a Bluetooth speaker and LED lighting.  The team also had to work cooperatively and demonstrate professional coopetition, to solve a problem through an activity designated by the judge.

The final piece to the competition is gaming.  Teams program a robot to complete tasks on a 4x8 gaming board.  All programs and gaming fields deal with hydro-dynamics.  The team will now move on to the state competition in Fairmont, West Virginia on December 2, 2017.
