During the past month and a half, you may have seen or heard some of the inspiring messages created by Cabell County Schools students as part of their “Together We Can” attendance campaign. So far, this student-led effort has included television and radio commercials and shortened versions of the video messages distributed through the students’ social media accounts.

This Wednesday, January 9, the next phase of the Cabell Midland High School and Huntington High School Student Advisory Councils’ original vision comes to life as “Together We Can” t-shirts are distributed to 10th and 11th grade students at both high schools and the Cabell County Career Technology Center.

The Cabell Midland and Huntington high distributions will take place during homeroom at approximately 7:30 AM. The distribution of shirts at the Career Technology Center will likely take place later in the day.

The “Together We Can” t-shirt was imagined by the Student Advisory Council students, then designed and printed by Mr. Dale Martin and his Graphic Design program students at the Cabell County Career Technology Center.

The shirt is a Cabell County Schools blue and features a “Together We Can” logo on the front, then the campaign slogan, “Dream, Explore, Achieve, Graduate” on the back.

When students pick up their shirts, they will be asked to sign off on a special pledge:

“I pledge, that by wearing this shirt, that I will always look out for my classmates. I pledge that I will set a positive example for all incoming Freshmen in order to inspire them to help others around them as well. I pledge that I will be a positive impact on my community, in and outside of school hours. And, I pledge that I will always do what I can to help those that are having a difficult time getting through school. By signing this pledge, I agree that Together We Can - ACHIEVE, EXPLORE, DREAM and GRADUATE.”

About “Together We Can”: The campaign is the result of a partnership between the high school Student Advisory Councils, Cabell County Schools and Education Matters, an initiative of United Way of the River Cities. Funding for this student-led campaign is being provided by a West Virginia Department of Education grant designed to encourage good school attendance for students of all ages.
