Summer School for Middle School Students

Cabell County Schools will offer recovery school for students needing to gain credit for promotion or for high school graduation credits of failed courses.  Summer school is open to Cabell County Schools student who were enrolled as of June 1.  Registration is available through the school counselor or online.

Registration

Registration is open to students in grades 6-8 enrolled in Cabell County Schools on or before June 1. Registration will be completed by the student’s counselor by the last day for students. Students must live in county to attend summer school.

Cost: 1 Course- $40; 2 Courses - $60; 3 Courses - $75

Registration for middle recovery will also be held in the lobby of the Central Office, June 12-14, from 9 AM-12 PM.

The last day to register for summer school will be June 15, 2018.

Attendance

Students will attend during designated time blocks between 8:00 AM and 2:30 PM, Monday through Thursday. Attendance is required for successful completion of summer school.

Instruction

Students will receive direct instruction in math and ELA recovery classes in combination with Odysseyware. Science and social studies recovery will be through online course in Odysseyware, an online course program. Unit and mastery tests are averaged for a final grade for the course.

Transcription of Grades

The student’s failing grade will remain on the student’s transcript.The recovered grade will be the average of the original final grade with the Odysseyware grade/Classroom Instruction grade. For example: If a student failed ELA 8 during the regular school year with 55% and then received an 82% in Odysseyware during summer school, his/her transcript would reflect two ELA 8 courses: One will be the original course attempted and the other will be the 82% being averaged with the 55% for his/her cumulative grade point average. The original course grade will be excluded from the GPA calculation.

Transportation

HEMS site TTA bus passes are available upon request. MMS plans for limited bus service schedule to be determined.
